Austria-Japan Technology Forum

Meetings of the "Austria-Japan Technology Forum" in Tokyo are open to anybody with a bona-fide interest in Technology Cooperation between Austria and Japan. Prior registration by email is necessary to attend the meetings. We will send a map of the meeting location and further details are sent by email to registered participants. We are planning to hold approximately 2 or 3 meetings per year.

Purpose and mission:

The Austria-Japan Technology Forum is a platform for Austrian engineers and scientists in Japan or with interest in Japan, and for Japanese scientists and engineers with interest in Austria. It's purpose is to promote cooperation between Austria and Japan in the areas of technology and science in the framework of EU-Japan cooperation. Participation is open to anyone with a "bona-fide" professional interest in technology or scientific cooperation between Austria and Japan. There should not be limits on age or nationality, but it is not be a purely social club. Both countries can learn from each, provided information is exchanged in both directions. It is the purpose of the Austria-Japan Technology Forum to provide an additional channel for information exchange between Austria and Japan and thus to help and promote the cooperation between our two countries

Background:

Austria and Japan both have a very rich history in the science and technology field: both Japanese and Austrian scientists such as Kubo and Tomonaga, Boltzmann and Schroedinger have helped to build the foundations of modern science. Japan and Austria already have many cooperations and interactions in high technology areas: many cars and much electronic equipment in Austria comes from Japan, and without Austrian technology to maintain Japan's railway tracks no trains would run in Japan, and many of Japan's car motors are designed in cooperation with Austrian engineers in Austria. Both Japan and Austria have important companies and very strong research in many high-technology fields. Cooperation depends mainly on human factors: people have to meet, talk, interact. We believe there is a need for an additional platform to bring Austrian and Japanese scientists and engineers of all ages and specialities together to talk, to make friends, and eventually have new ideas together and start new projects together. We believe this is a win-win proposition, and if well done will increase the prosperity of both our countries. With this aim, we have decided to start our new "Austria Japan Technology Forum". We propose that our new "Austria Japan Technology Forum" should provide an open platform for anyone who has a "bona-fide" interest in improving the cooperation between Japan and Austria in technology, engineering and scientific fields. There should be no limits on age or nationality, but it should not be a purely social club. We are planning that our new "Forum" should become an important new channel for information exchange, and new friendships between Austria and Japan and thus contribute to improved cooperation between our new countries.
